POLICE and firefighters were called to The Quadrant shopping centre in St Albans at the weekend after a car flipped on to its roof, and there were fears the driver was trapped.

A spokeswoman for Herts Police said that they received an emergency call at about 10.20am on Sunday (5).

She explained that it had been reported that a white Vauxhall Corsa had collided with two stationary cars - a Toyota Yaris and Peugot 407 - parked on the service road along The Ridgeway side of the busy shopping precinct.

A spokeswoman for St Albans fire station said that firefighters arrived to find the Vauxhall upside down, but no one was inside the vehicle. Ambulance officers gave the driver first aid assistance.

An eyewitness said that the car came to rest outside the bed shop and betting office.
