A CAR burst into flames on a residential road during the rush hour yesterday (Monday) evening.

Firefighters were called to Green Lane in St Albans at around 5.30pm where they found a blue Ford Fiesta well alight near the junction with Batchwood Drive.

Police closed the road from there to the junction with Toulmin Drive while the fire crew from St Albans worked to put out the blaze. The fire is being treated as suspicious and police are investigating.

* Firefighters had to cut a driver out of a car following a crash at the weekend.

No other vehicle was involved in the accident which happened at around 12.45am on Saturday morning along Black Lion Hill in Shenley, near to Broadley Gardens.

Firefighters used cutting equipment to free the driver of the silver Vauxhall Vectra who suffered minor injuries.
