Emergency services were called to the M25 near St Albans following reports of a car fire this afternoon.
The incident happened on the anticlockwise carriageway near Junction 21A at around 5pm, and caused one lane to close.
It is currently unclear if anybody was injured.
Highways England warned motorists to take care when passing the scene.
