A driver escaped injury in Park Street this morning (Tuesday) after his vehicle caught alight.

Fire crews rushed to the incident, in Park Street Lane, after being called at 7am.

A St Albans Fire Station spokesman said that the driver was in the car when it caught alight, “but he managed to get out.

“The car was fully on fire when we got there. Firefighters had to wear breathing apparatus – but the driver was already out.”

The vehicle was extinguished, and the man was not injured during the incident.
