RESURFACING will close a busy St Albans road for a two week period from early next month.

Herts Highways will be carrying out essential resurfacing on Beechwood Avenue between Sandpit Lane and Hatfield Road from Monday, March 8.

A full road closure and signed diversion will be put in place and at certain times it will be necessary to close all side roads at their junction with Beechwood Avenue.

Special access arrangements will be put in place for some Beechwood Avenue residents and people using the schools in Oakwood Drive while the work is going on.

The work, which includes resurfacing worn-out carriageway, repairing and replacing damaged ironwork and kerbing, cleaning the existing drainage system and renewing road marks, will be carried out in two phases.

Herts Highways will be returning to the site for two days from Monday, March 29, to re-lay the high friction surfacing at the pedestrian crossing by Central Drive and "slow" patches by Elm Drive.

Cllr Stuart Pile, the county council's executive member for highways, said the work was essential but would inevitably lead to some disruption and inconvenience.

Highways staff would do everything possible to keep it to a minimum and maintain access as much as possible, he added.
