UNO bus company, owned by the University of Hertfordshire, has taken over the St Albans operation of Centrebus.

It means that Uno -- formerly Universitybus -- will expand its fleet from 58 to 80 buses. The Centrebus vehicles will be repainted in the UNO purple and pink and its staff will transfer to Uno.

Uno managing director Bill Hiron explained that by managing Centrebus's St Albans operation, working with St Albans District Council and other key stakeholders, and applying their marketing formula, they could encourage greater use of buses in the city.

Peter Harvey, managing director of Centrebus said they had enjoyed running the St Albans operation but after discussion with Uno, it was clear they would be able to give customers more value and opportunity so they decided to sell the business.
