PUBLISHED: 13:04 08 June 2011
A BURGLAR sprung by the homeowner as he tried to break into her property apologised and ran away.
The incident in Ringway Road, Park Street, happened at around 9.15pm on Tuesday of last week (May 31) and police have issued an appeal for information and witnesses.
Two men climbed over the brick wall to access the back garden of the house and from there one of the culprits tried to force open the PVCu back door. But when disturbed by the homeowner, he apologised and ran away across the gardens of neighbouring houses.
The suspect who tried to break into the house is described as a white man, aged 30 to 40, about 5ft 6ins to 5ft 8ins tall and with a stocky build. He had a round face and was wearing a white baseball cap.
The second suspect is described as white and of the same age range with dark brown hair. Neighbours also saw a third man, who is described as white, aged between 30 and 35, wearing a grey jumper and of stocky build.
Pc Naomi Scott, investigating, said: “I am appealing for anyone who lives in the area and we have not already spoken to, but may have information, to come forward.
“It may be that you were just in the area at the time and have information. We believe at least one of the suspects was hanging around the front of the house before they went round the back and he may have tapped on the home owner’s window. Maybe you saw this and could describe the men. Any information, no matter how small you might think it is, could help us solve this crime, so please do contact me.”
Anyone with any information should call Pc Scott via the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222 or, alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
