A BURGLAR armed with a metal pole and his accomplice ransacked a home while the terrified owner watched in horror.

Police are appealing for witnesses an information following the aggravated burglary in Broad Acre, Bricket Wood, which happened on Tuesday between 2.45pm and 3.30pm.

The occupant heard a disturbance and discovered one of the men with a metal pole standing in her hallway before they searched the property and made off with jewellery and some electrical items.

A silver vehicle was seen parked outside the property around the time of the incident.

Detective Sergeant Nina Winfield from the Local Crime Unit in St Albans said: “We are very keen to find out who was responsible for this incident. The woman was not harmed at all but she was obviously very shaken.

“We believe the car may be linked to an incident in Chiswell Green earlier that day where a silver car, possibly a Volvo, acted suspiciously outside a house.

“We are following a number of lines of enquiry into the incident, but I would like to ask anyone who believes they may have seen these men or the silver vehicle in the area to contact police immediately.”

The main culprit is described as white, between the ages of 25 and 35, around 5ft 9ins tall, with a slim build and short grey hair. He was wearing light coloured tracksuit bottoms and a grey jumper.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the non-emergency number on 0845 33 00 222. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, on 0800 555 111.
