Building firm bucks downturn with £12-million order book

A LOCAL building firm has bucked the current downturn in the industry by securing more than £12 million of work recently. Jarvis Contracting in Harpenden has tied up contracts for work throughout the Home Counties, South Midlands and North London areas

A LOCAL building firm has bucked the current downturn in the industry by securing more than £12 million of work recently.

Jarvis Contracting in Harpenden has tied up contracts for work throughout the Home Counties, South Midlands and North London areas.

Steve Cook, managing director of Jarvis, said: "It is a little early in the current climate to see how the industry will fare over the next year but I am very pleased to say that we appear to be bucking the trend in the downturn.

"The company will need to work hard t secure new work throughout 2009 which we expect to be a very difficult year."

Jarvis produces services ranging from building, mechanical and electrical as well as property maintenance and development. In the last few months they have continued to secure work in their core areas of business which are residential, education, healthcare and the public sectors.
