ST ALBANS: Long life runs in the family of centenarian Doris Spencer who celebrated her 100th birthday at Tenterden House in Bricket Wood recently.

For Mrs Spencer, the second of four children born to a Czech father who owned his own hairdressing salon in Dulwich, still has her two younger siblings alive.

One of them, Olive Moore, who lives in St Albans, was at the party held in the nursing home in Lye Lane to mark her sister’s landmark birthday. Their brother Derek Cizek lives in Canada.

Mrs Spencer, who was married to Bert, lived in Dulwich for some years before moving close to Brent Cross and then to Hendon. She stayed there until she became too frail to continue living alone and has resided at Tenterden House for the past few months to be near family.
