POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a restaurant in St Albans city centre was broken into in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At around 3.20am, a man forced entry into Darcy’s restaurant on Hatfield Road. He then ran off before returning with a second male, according to Herts police.

The alarms were set off and the pair fled the scene. Nothing was taken.

Ruth Hurren, restaurant director at Darcy’s, told how the security system was due to be upgraded this week following the break in.

“This is the first time anything like this has happened,” she said. “But there is so much of it happening in the area and every business is vulnerable at the moment; especially with costs rising all the time.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Herts police on the new non-emergency number 101.
