A bomb was found in a St Albans house on Saturday, causing several homes to be evacuated.

Police and a bomb disposal team were called to Beverley Gardens just before 10am after reports of a potentially explosive device in a loft.

It was removed by 1.40pm and safely disposed of by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.

A number of bottles were also discovered within the property and removed, as they were suspected to contain hazardous chemicals.

Road closures were lifted and residents were allowed to return home at around 1.45pm.
