A SPORTS field on the outskirts of St Albans which is more used to the pounding feet of hundreds of rugby and cricket players recently played host to the wheels of over 80 motorcycles for a charity event.

The Herts Air Ambulance began a 55-mile circular motorcycle fundraising run from Woollams playing fields on Harpenden Road, home of Old Albanian (OA) Rugby and Cricket Clubs.

Wendy Marcon, trust events manager for the emergency air ambulance, said it was the first time the run had been held in Herts.

She thanked the OAs and bikers, and said that the ambulance hoped to hold the run again.

Over £900 was raised for the county’s life-saving helicopter.
