Support for the Harpenden mother and her disabled son who had their bikes stolen has stretched across the district and beyond after a cycle shop in Dunstable gave them a special Christmas present.

On Christmas Eve Miriam Grundy-Evans was surprised with the offer of a new bike to help get her and son Daniel back on the road while live on the Heart Breakfast radio show.

The family’s story has pulled at the heartstrings of many residents locally since their bikes were swiped in October, including St Albans Leo Club which has offered to replace Daniel’s specially-adapted bike, and a group of passionate pedallers who took part in a sponsored cycle to replace all of his stolen bike kit.

Owner of Pedalworks, Brian Curran, who donated the bike to mum Miriam, said: “It does happen and I know myself what it feels like, that feeling of loss when you lose a bike, and when we heard the story we wanted to put a smile on Daniel’s face and enable him and his mum to get back out again.

“Now we’re really looking forward to seeing Daniel and his mum out on their bikes soon.”
