AN INFANTS school is banking on one last push on the pedals to raise the rest of the money it needs for a new library.

Wheatfields Infants and Nursery School in Marshalswick has been trying to raise £30,000 for a new library. It is now down to the last £4,000 and is hoping that a bike donated by St Albans Cycles and one of the school governors will help reach the target.

The bike is being raffled this month and will be shown off during the school's family cycle ride in April.

Head teacher Carolyn Booth said: "We are delighted to be the recipient of such a magnificent prize. All the children are very excited about the possibility of winning.

"We are also pleased because a new bicycle for one of our children totally supports our policy of cycling and walking to school in an effort to see a reduction in the amount of traffic on the school run and to improve kids' fitness levels overall."

The school has a number of activities planned for this Spring to reach its target.
