The first wood has been bowled at a club which celebrated the start of its 50th anniversary year with a visit from St Albans Mayor.
Batchwood Hall Bowling Club was founded back in 1966 and prides itself on being a friendly club for suitable first-timers and seasoned bowlers alike.
The Mayor, Cllr Salih Gaygusuz, and his wife Maureen attended the event and were greeted by club founder and president Noel Godman and club members.
Member Pat Savage said: “It proved to be very successful. The Mayor put up the first wood of the season with them both staying to play in the match.
“Batchwood welcomes anyone who would like to give bowling a try and would be pleased to meet you on any Monday evening between 6pm and 8pm to have a go.”
As part of its anniversary celebrations, the club has special upcoming matches with Bowls England and the Chelsea Pensioners. Click here for more details.
