A delicious afternoon was had by all who ventured to Shenley Park's annual Apple Day last weekend.

From sweet and crispy Jonagolds to tender Mrs Philmores and honey-flavoured Red Windsors, there were over 30 types of eating and cooking apples on display at the Shenley Park event on Sunday, which was attended by 3,000 people.

As well as ample apples and home-pressed juices to try and buy, other fruity attractions included apple juicing demonstrations, cider tasting, apple bobbing, apple tombola, an apple shy and even a longest apple peel competition.

Apple expert Michael Clarke was on hand to identify any unknown apples and green-fingered guests also had the opportunity to purchase rare and regional fruit trees from The Heritage Fruit Tree Company.

St Albans resident Juliet Vine, 22, said she had a wonderful time at the Apple Day: "I really enjoyed celebrating my favourite fruit amongst fellow apple-lovers and I even discovered a new favourite type of apple, the Wealthy. To top it all off, I even won an apple clock in the tombola!

"I'm looking forward to making my way through the rather large bag of apples that I've managed to collect.
