Thirty bales of hay were set alight last night (Sunday) in a suspected arson attack.

Firefighters from St Albans, Wheathampstead and Harpenden were called to a field opposite homes on Common Lane, Harpenden at about 8.15pm.

They used hose reels to put out the flames, which were extinguished at about 9.45pm, and no one was hurt.

Police did not attend, but were made aware of the incident by the fire service.
