St Albans is the prime location for a new film which stars award-winning actress, Judi Dench.
Camera crews descended upon Gorhambury Estate, just off Bluehouse Hill, on Monday, November 7 and spent four days filming Victoria & Abdul - a monarch-inspired movie. William Bird Open Space playing field, near Toulmin Drive, was used as a car park for the crew and actors for the duration of filming.
The film, which is directed by Academy Award nominee Stephen Frears, tells the story of an unexpected friendship between Queen Victoria and a young clerk from India called Abdul in the later years of her rule.
Dame Judi Dench will play Queen Victoria alongside Ali Fazal, who will take on the role of Abdul.
The Working Title film is financed by Focus in association with BBC Films and is expected to be released in September next year.
