CELEBRITIES and football legends will play a charity match in London Colney early next month to raise money for a young cancer sufferer’s treatment.

The Arsenal Charity Team kick off at London Colney Football Club’s grounds in Cotlandswick on Sunday, May 13, in support of Bailey Sarwa, a 12 year old from St Albans who is fighting a recurrence of neuroblastoma, a rare cancer.

Residents, schools and businesses have rallied behind the brave boy, raising more than 62,000 for potentially lifesaving antibody treatment overseas. Bailey has recently undergone his eighth round of chemotherapy.

Andrew Farley, from the Arsenal Charity Team, said London Colney FC has kindly postponed re-seeding its pitches to allow the match to be held.

He added: “They are brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

“When I mentioned Bailey to them, they really wanted to help straight away.”

The squad of nearly 40 players boasts celebrities such as The Royle Family’s Ralf Little, and Charlie Hawkins and Sam Attwater who have appeared in EastEnders.

Ex-Arsenal footballers include Paul Davis, Ian Selley and Jimmy Carter, who play alongside other stars from the sporting world, such as English former professional boxer Terry Marsh and cricketer Mark Ramprakash.

Managed by ex-Arsenal star Brian Hornsby, the team has played over 500 games, raising tens of thousands of pounds for charities.

Thirty percent of the takings will be donated to the Arsenal Charitable Trust while the remainder will go to the Bailey Sarwa Appeal.

Bailey’s dad, Chris Sarwa, whose partner Suzy McCallum is helping to organise the match against the Bailey’s All Stars side, said that kick-off is at 1pm at the club’s grounds off the North Orbital Road.

Further details of ticket prices and other activities planned for the day will be publicised next week.
