A BIT more sun than usual but an average amount of rain sums up April according to weather figures recorded at Rothamsted Research in Harpenden.

Rainfall at 53.5mm was exactly on the 30-year average and less than half the amount which fell in March. However there was measurable rainfall on 22 of the 30 days with the wettest on April 29 with 14.6mm - a quarter of the month's total.

We had 160 hours of sunshine, about 13 hours above the average with the most, 9.7 hours, on April 26 which was also the warmest day at 20C. The sun didn't shine at all on three days.

Maximum and minimum temperatures were slightly above average and on the coldest night the temperature dropped to -2.2C.
