A TREASURED BMW was broken into and had items stolen from it in St Albans earlier this month.

Now police have issued a photograph of the damaged car in the hope of jogging memories about the theft which happened between 8pm on August 8 and 8.40am the following morning in Townsend Drive.

The driver’s front window of the grey BMW 318 saloon and the offside rear quarter light window were smashed and both the driver and passenger door locks were damaged before the nearside front headlamp was stolen.

Tim Rice from the Crime Service Team said the owner had owned the car for 19 years and it was of sentimental value but it had been damaged significantly during the incident.

He appealed for information and to anyone who might have been offered the stolen light for sale or seen a similar car with a new light on it.

Anyone who can help is asked to ring the Crime Service Team on 01707 355001, the non-emergency number 0845 3300222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
