A WOMAN was threatened with a knife by a man demanding that she hand over her bag in a St Albans block of flats last Friday.

The attempted robbery took place shortly before 5pm when the woman was in the communal area at Thirlestane in Lemsford Road.

A man who was standing in the doorway, asked the woman for the time and then pulled a knife from his pocket and told her to give him her bag. When she refused he ran off.

The man was described as white, in his late teens, of slim build and about 5ft 5ins tall. He was clean shaven with a thin face and described as having a local accent. He was wearing a black-hooded top which covered his head.

Investigating officer, Pc Ian Clements said that such incidents were rare in Herts but he wanted to speak to anyone with information or saw the person described either before or after the attempted robbery.
