A SWIMMING pool has placed restrictions on the times that people can use the facility free of charge on presenting a promotional voucher.
Although Harpenden Leisure Centre wasn't originally part of the portfolio of pools taking part in Kellogg's Free Swim promotion, it started to offer the incentive due to popular demand.
Vouchers for complementary swims have been given away with Kellogg's cereal packs since April last year and the offer is due to end in April this year.
Harpenden swimming pool had been accepting the vouchers any time since the initiative started, but since January 12, they can only been used on Mondays and Wednesdays between 3pm and 5pm and on a Saturday between 12pm and 3pm.
Catherine Gardner from Harpenden has been using the vouchers for many months to enjoy free swims at the pool, along with her children and husband.
She was therefore bemused to arrive at the pool after Christmas to find the restrictions in place, which she said came without any prior warning.
Mrs Gardner is now concerned that the sessions for which the vouchers can be used will be extremely busy and unsuitable for her to take her young baby along to.
She believes that the restrictions have been enforced as a cost-cutting measure but thinks it is unfair considering the offer ends in a few months, especially since many families would have saved up the tokens to save money in the recession.
A spokesperson for Leisure Connection said the company wanted to encourage more people to become active and was pleased to be supporting the promotion.
She continued: "Harpenden Swimming Pool wasn't in the original portfolio of pools that would offer this free swimming incentive but due to popular demand and Leisure Connection's commitment to a healthier nation and indeed in Harpenden, we extended the offer to include users of this pool."
But she said that it did state in the terms and conditions of the offer that it was subject to availability and that participating pools reserved the right to vary prices, times and availability.
She added: "In addition, the terms and conditions state that persons taking advantage of this promotion do so on complete acceptance of these terms and conditions."
The spokesperson also advised people to check with participating pools before visiting.
Westminster Lodge leisure centre in St Albans, also part of Leisure Connections, is still accepting the Kellogg's vouchers without any restrictions.
