Three students who assisted in a medical emergency in St Albans city centre in September were presented with awards by US ambassador Matthew Barzun when he visited their school.

Mr Barzun, the US Ambassador to the UK, was at St Columba’s College in King Harry Lane, St Albans, last week and presented awards to Rohan Mapara, Alex Gillingham and James Charteris, all in the Lower Sixth.

They helped a man who was knocked unconscious and was bleeding profusely after suffering an epileptic fit and falling in the middle of the Holywell Hill crossroads.

The main purpose of Mr Barzun’s visit was to give a presentation to the sixth form on the US/UK relationship and other current global issues.

Sixth formers at the college were encouraged to contribute their own thoughts and ideas to the debate.
