POLICE are appealing for witnesses following an alleged common assault in St Albans.

The incident occurred in Romeland, at around 3pm on Friday March 30.

The alleged victim, a 24-year-old man from the city, had been sitting alone when he was approached by a man.

The alleged offender is said to have started shouting at the victim but he did not engage in conversation.

It is then alleged that the offender struck him to the head and then to the arm, causing him to drop his mobile phone.

Both men then walked towards the town centre.

PC Rebecca Follenfant, who is investigating the incident, said: “We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened that afternoon.

“If you did see anything or know anything about the incident I would urge you to contact police.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Herts Police via the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
