A suspected car thief was caught up in a police chase this morning (Friday) before crashing into a tree and running away.
A Porsche Boxster was stolen at about 9.15 in the St Albans area and police pursued the vehicle from Cell Barnes Lane after the driver failed to stop.
The car then collided with the tree in St Vincent Drive at the junction with Foxcroft, and it is alleged the driver then vacated the car and ran away.
A police helicopter and police dog unit were called to the scene and the thief was tracked down by police dog Oz and his handler.
