An Essex and Herts air ambulance landed on Harpenden Common this lunchtime, following reports a man had stopped breathing.
It joined an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle, which were called to Amenbury Lane at 11.40am.
There, a man in his 50s had apparently stopped breathing, and had gone into cardiac arrest.
He was taken to Harefield hospital in a serious condition around an hour ago.
