BATTERY acid spilled out across a busy main road yesterday morning (Wednesday) after a crash between a car and a milk float.

The accident happened on the A5 in Markyate just before 9am and three fire engines rushed to the scene.

The milk float's battery had fallen out and onto its side in the collision, which left 10 litres of battery acid spilling out across the road.

As a result a fire service DEP (Decontamination and Environmental Protection) unit attended the scene to mop up the spillage safely using soda ash and absorbent pads.

One person was treated at the scene for minor injuries and another person was involved but uninjured. The incident was over by 10am.
