MONTHS of hard work by more than 100 volunteers will finally come to fruition at the weekend, with the Herts County Show tipped to draw a bumper crowd.

Organisers hope upwards of 35,000 people will head to the event, supported by the WHT, on Saturday and Sunday.

And president of the organising body, the Hertfordshire Agricultural Society, Stuart Wykes,. says it will celebrate the best of the county.

Mr Wykes, a director at Lafarge Tarmac said: “One of the fantastic things about the Herts Show is that it’s a real celebration of all things Hertfordshire.

“It’s a great county and the show pulls together politicians, businesses and services.”

And he continued: “It’s a big family event, and I think it’s a time for everyone to celebrate what’s best about Hertfordshire.”

Medieval display team The Devil’s Horsemen and the Jason Smyth Aerial Motorbike Stunt Team will be among the performers.

There will also be more than 300 trade stands, a food hall, a Made In Hertfordshire marquee, a countryside arena, a circus, and Mr Alexander’s Travelling show.

The event follows a year of preparations, with 130 volunteers set to be on duty stewarding the event, at the Herts Showground in Dunstable Road, Redbourn.

Describing the work that goes into organising the show, Mr Wykes said: “It pretty much starts the moment the last show finishes.”

He praised the legion of volunteers that make the event possible, stating: “It takes a huge commitment from a lot of people to make this happen, for which the people of Herts can be proud.

“It’s always very, very well organised and it always runs smoothly, come rain or shine.”

It will be open between 8.30am and 5.30pm.

Tickets on the day will cost £16.50 for adults, £8 for children, with under fives free, £41 for a family ticket (two adults, two children), and £14.50 for over 60s.
