A £55,000 pavement and cycleway improvement scheme has started at a St Albans junction, coinciding with the start of school holidays.

Work begins today (Monday) at the intersection of Abbey Avenue and King Harry Lane, and is expected to be completed within 20 working days.

Herts county council’s cabinet member for highways Cllr Terry Douris said access to neighbouring properties may be disrupted as a result, “but we will try to keep any inconvenience to an absolute minimum”.

Work is being carried - depending on the weather - from 9.30am till 4.30pm during the school break, and from 9.30am until 3.30pm during term time.

A spokesman for the council said it was not anticipated that motorists should be affected as there are no road closures planned.

Any changes to the duration or working hours will be announced on information boards on site, or you can see more online: http://hertfordshire.roadworks.org
