An unconventional local golfing event raised more than £3,000 for disadvantaged local families in the county.

For the fifth year running, golfers took on the Three Club Challenge, this time in aid of Home-Start Herts - a charity which supports families with young children.

The players were only allowed three clubs and a putter to score as many points as they can. Golfers normally choose between numerous different clubs depending on the shot.

A company providing business services, 5 Rings Group, hosted the event.

Strategic operations manager at Home-Start Herts, Suzy Moody, said: “We are delighted to be 5 Rings’ partner charity for the golf day.

“It was a fantastic day and the support from the company and golfers was overwhelming. This donation of £3,064 will enable us to support at least three more families for an entire year.”

Sixteen teams, made up of business men and women, took part in the competition at the Mid Herts Golf Club in Wheathampstead.

Home-Start supports families across Hertfordshire to help them cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children.

It aims to help families deal with problems before they become a crisis.

Support is delivered through a variety of techniques including one-to-one, school support and group support.

The charity host various fund raising events throughout each year, including a pancake race in the centre of St Albans for Shrove Tuesday.

It also recently held Home-Start Hert’s first ever sponsored tandem skydive in Cambridge.

The 5 Rings Group annual event has been partnered with different charities in the past, such as Keech Hospice Care.
