A St Albans mum is celebrating the first anniversary of baby massage and yoga classes she launched to help parents build confidence, friendships and connections with their babies.

Laura Mullen, from St Albans, launched Basking Babies in May 2025 and has since expanded from one venue to four, offering many fully booked classes across the city.

The sessions, designed for parents and their babies, focus on building confidence, friendships and calm through baby massage and yoga.

Laura said: "I was ready for a change and wanted to do something I enjoyed more.

"I’d always felt a calling to work with mums and their babies, and this felt like a really good fit for me and my family."

The social side of her classes is just as important as the activities themselves.

Laura’s own experience of baby massage helped shape her approach – she once connected with another parent during a class but neither felt comfortable suggesting they meet up afterwards.

Years later, their sons became best friends at school.

She said: "Making mum friends isn’t always easy.

"That’s something I really love about these classes.

"The babies get all the lovely benefits of massage and yoga but the parents also have time to chat, have a coffee and build those friendships.

"It makes me so happy to see mums still meeting up after class because I know how much I would’ve valued that at the time."

Word-of-mouth referrals have helped the classes grow in popularity, with many parents returning for multiple courses as their babies develop.

Laura said: "The classes are the lovely bit.

"I get to know the mums and watch their babies grow, and you do get really attached to them.

"When they’ve been with you for baby massage and then yoga, you’re with them for such a big part of their maternity leave, so it’s really special."

As she enters her second year, Laura hopes to reach even more families across St Albans and is looking for people interested in training as instructors.
