Both men and women can expect long and healthy lives in Harpenden, new statistics reveal.
The town has been named among the top 10 areas in England and Wales for healthy life expectancy, according to fresh data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Figures show the median average healthy life expectancy at birth for females across 2019 to 2023 was 66.8 years in England and 63.8 years in Wales.
For males the median is lower, at 65.3 years in England and 62.5 years in Wales.
The ONS has calculated the healthy life expectancies for more than 7,200 local areas.
In Harpenden Town, males are expected to enjoy 76.3 years of good health from birth, placing the area ninth in the country.
Meanwhile, in Harpenden Common, females can expect 78.4 years of good health, ranking fourth nationally.

It is consistently higher in southern England and lower in areas outside the south.
The greatest healthy life expectancy at birth was recorded in Knightsbridge, Belgravia & Hyde Park in Westminster, with females expected to enjoy 81.2 years of good health and males 78.3 years.
In contrast, the lowest figures were reported in Grimsby East Marsh & Port in North East Lincolnshire, where females can expect just 49 years of good health, and in Central Stockton & Portrack in Stockton-on-Tees, where males are estimated at 47.7 years.
