Search the Public Notice PortalPlanning officers have recommended that permission should be granted for a stroke rehabilitation clinic in Aldenham.
The clinic, known as Brian’s House, would be built at a site on Hillfield Lane, and a final decision on the application is set to be made by Hertsmere Borough Council’s planning committee next Thursday (July 16).
It would be funded by the applicant, at no cost to the NHS, and would offer around 4,500 hours of therapy every year with a team of between six and eight specialist staff.
A council report said there are currently “limited” NHS facilities available to provide long-term care for people who have had a stroke, with the gap in provision “largely filled” by charities and private providers.
The plans are supported by the UK Stroke Association and by the NHS South and West Herts Health and Care Partnership, both of which are keen to work with the applicant.
The new clinic would have three consulting rooms, three medical assessment rooms and two occupational therapy rooms, as well as a gym, hydrotherapy pool, yoga studio and changing rooms.

It would be laid out over a one-and-a-half-storey building, on top of a basement car park providing space for 19 cars.
The site that would be built on is within the Green Belt, but planning officers believe it should be classed as Grey Belt after Government planning reforms.
While officers found the development would have an “adverse impact” on the Patchetts Green Conservation Area and the setting of nearby Grade II-listed Patchetts Cottage, they concluded that the harm would be outweighed by the “very significant” benefits of the proposal.
