A new immersive lemur experience at Hertfordshire Zoo that will transport visitors into the forests of Madagascar is opening this month.
The Lemurs of Madagascar walk-through habitat, described by the zoo as its "most ambitious one yet", will open on Saturday, July 18.
A spokesman for the Broxbourne-based zoo said: "We are excited to announce our brand-new immersive walkthrough habitat, Lemurs of Madagascar is opening to the public on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
"This project has been our most ambitious one yet, creating the newest immersive walkthrough habitat home to three species of lemur and Madagascan whistling ducks."
The habitat will be home to three lemur species - including the iconic ring tailed - and Madagascan whistling ducks.
It has been designed to mimic the damp, leafy canopies of Madagascar, reaching 10 metres at its tallest point to allow the lemurs to climb and move naturally.
"This habitat is a testament to our incredible conservation partner, SEED Madagascar and the inspiring work they do to protect the country of Madagascar for generations to come," the zoo added.
Hertfordshire Zoo donated more than £10,000 to SEED Madagascar in 2025 to support ongoing conservation efforts.
