The Robin Hood pub seeks to remove 'outdated' guest limit

The Robin Hood, located at 126 Victoria Street, has applied to remove its current capacity limit of 60 as part of a licence variation.

If approved, the change would mean the number of patrons allowed inside would instead be determined by fire safety risk assessments and relevant legislation, rather than being fixed at 60.

Christopher Pratt, son of pub landlord Jim Pratt, submitted the application to St Albans City and District Council, which states that the condition is considered "outdated".

The Robin Hood has been serving customers since the 19th century and was awarded Branch Pub of the Year in 2024 and 2025 by Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

It also won Cider Pub of the Year in 2023 and 2024.

The Robin Hood offers Harvey's Sussex Best as their flagship ale, alongside two ever-changing guest ales on cask.

The pub also offers food, including pies, handmade Sussex pasties and sausage rolls.

Comments on the proposal must be submitted in writing by May 28, 2026.
