County council officials have assured those Hertfordshire couples who have made plans to tie the knot that their special day won’t be impacted by plans to sell County Hall.
Once the prestigious headquarters of Hertfordshire County Council, the County Hall site has been on the market for some time.
But while the vast majority of the council’s staff have already moved to the council’s Stevenage campus, the Register Office has continued to operate from the County Hall site.
In the latest stage of the process to sell County Hall, county councillors are now being asked to back proposals that would identify City and Country as the preferred bidder.
In light of the latest development, council officials have assured residents that there will be “no interruption” for couples who have booked weddings.
Officers say that as part of any sale arrangements with City and Country, the council would be able to continue to use the existing space “until alternative accommodation can be provided”.
A spokesperson for the county council told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: “The registrars’ service will continue to have use of the existing venue for weddings, therefore there will be no interruption in services that have been booked.”
