On this day in 2022, Hollywood star George Clooney was spotted directing his new film, "The Boys in the Boat", at a county council office in Hertfordshire.

Located less than 10 miles from Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield, Hertfordshire County Council indicated that the County Hall building is frequently chosen for filming due to its "historic architecture".

At the time, a council spokesperson confirmed that filming took place but could not disclose specific details about the film crews' activities.

They said: "We sometimes get requests for filming at County Hall, due to the historic and aesthetically pleasing nature of its architecture and surroundings, as has been the case this week.

"We cannot comment on the filming itself."

It was understood that Clooney was directing "The Boys in the Boat", a film starring Callum Turner and James Wolk.

The movie tells the inspiring story of the US underdogs who won rowing eights gold at the 1936 Olympics.

Just days prior, Clooney was also seen at the former naval academy, now home to Greenwich University, by the Thames in South East London.
