Upham Inns announces closure of The Beech House St Albans

The Beech House in St Peter's Street will serve its last customers on Sunday, May 17.

After launching in September 2014, the restaurant became popular for its huge menu featuring home comforts, roast dinners and everything in-between, as well as brunch and cocktails.

Its operator, Upham Inns, took charge of a number of locations after buying out Oakman Group PLC in July 2025.

The new owner left the future of the St Albans chain in doubt however, as Upham shut a number of restaurants including Watford at the time.

Rumours about the St Peter's Street location shutting arose a few weeks ago, with staff allegedly telling customers of the upcoming closure.

Today (May 11), The Beech House St Albans confirmed the news via a Facebook post, it read: "After many wonderful years, it is with sadness that we announce we will be permanently closing our doors on Sunday, May 17, following lunch service.

"We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible team and to all of our guests for your loyalty and support over the years. It has truly been a pleasure to welcome you.

"While this chapter comes to an end, our other venues within the Upham family remain open and continue to operate as usual."

The Beech House boasted an impressive 4.2/5 stars on Google reviews, with many praising the "warm and welcoming" team and the "relaxed" interior.

One user said: "We've had several lovely brunches now at the Beech House and it never disappoints. Menu is great, decent prices & amazing service every time."

While another commented: "The Beech House had a lovely atmosphere and the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a pleasant evening. If you are disabled or have a food intolerance, I highly recommend this restaurant as a hassle free venue, with good food, that can cater to your individual needs."
