On this day in 2018, four Flamstead families teamed up for a bubble run in aid of hospice care.
The Flamstead team, known as Nic’s Army, completed a 5k run in support of The Hospice of St Francis during the Bubble Rush Herts event.
Around 2,200 participants took part in the event, braving paths of pink, blue, green, and yellow foam at Gadebridge Park in Hemel Hempstead to reach the finish line.
Nic’s Army was formed in memory of Nicola Byrne, a mother-of-three who passed away at the hospice just weeks previously.
Team members Edward and Oliver Able-Smith said they wanted to recognise the care Nicola received.
Pandora Smith, 10-year-old Edward's mum, said: "They all had a brilliant time running through the bubbles.
"It was the first time any of us had done Bubble Rush but we wanted to do something to support the hospice.”
Edward managed to raise £625, far exceeding his initial target of £250, and crowning him one of the event's top fundraisers.
The youngest team member was four-year-old Dylan Norton, who joined in the fun.
Lauren Parker, the Bubble Rush event manager at the hospice, said: "This year’s event was so much fun and it was terrific to see so many people running the course with big smiles on their faces despite the chilly temperature.
"There was such a lovely atmosphere as people turned out to support the hospice and enjoy the fun of the bubbles.
"We’d like to thank everyone for working so hard to raise money for us.
"Without such a tremendous level of support we wouldn’t be able to continue to provide care and support to patients and families across Herts and Bucks."
