Armed police swarmed a village street after reports of a man "grabbing random passing members of the public".
Police were called to Watling Street, in Radlett, where a man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly outside Tesco Express.
Hertfordshire Police confirmed armed officers attended the scene as they were in the area at the time.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Although they interacted with the man, this was in their role as police officers and not due to an armed threat.
"We have extra police patrols across the county this weekend in light of recent events targeting the Jewish community."
