A Hertfordshire student has died after being pulled from a river by emergency services - with an inquest set to open tomorrow.
Leela Sai Reddy Mallireddy was found in the Great River Ouse in Bedford at around 10pm on Friday, April 3, with the East of England Ambulance Service and Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service rushing to the scene in The Embankment.
Fire crews were able to pull the 24-year-old from the water and he was rushed to Bedford Hospital in a critical condition.
Sadly, Leela passed away in hospital with the Bedfordshire and Luton Coroner Service opening an inquest into his death which begins tomorrow (April 15).
Leela, who was originally from India, was a student at the University of Hertfordshire.
In a statement to this newspaper, the university said it was aware of "very sad reports" regarding the death of a student but refused to comment further at this time.
"The university is aware of very sad reports concerning one of our students," a spokesperson said.
"While we await formal confirmation, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage."
