A parish council has described a fireworks display as "inconsiderate" after many residents in London Colney were left "upset" over the weekend.
On Sunday night (April 5), villagers complained after hearing fireworks across the village in what was a "private display".
The event is believed to have occurred at the Caledon Community Centre.
In a statement providing clarity on the situation, London Colney Parish Council said it had not organised or authorised the fireworks.
"Although fireworks are legally permitted until 11:00 PM, their use at or near parish council premises, particularly in a densely populated residential area, should be referred to the council in advance," a statement by the authority began.
"This allows proper consideration of whether licences, insurance, evidence of contractor competence, and appropriate risk assessments are required, and whether permission should be refused on grounds of safety, nuisance, noise, environmental impact, welfare, public order, or the likely effect on neighbouring residents.

"In this case, no such authorisation was sought, and no prior warning was given to residents. We recognise that this caused understandable upset, particularly for pet owners, families with young children, and elderly residents.
"We encourage anyone planning a private display to act responsibly, consider the impact on others, and seek permission in advance where appropriate.
"Thank you for your understanding and for helping to keep London Colney a considerate place to live."
