On this day in 2024, a man from Hertfordshire was "set for life" after winning a total of £3.6 million thanks to the National Lottery.

The mystery winner, known only as Mr. G, secured the top prize of £10,000 a month for 30 years by matching the five main numbers and the Life Ball in the Set For Life draw.

Mr. G expressed plans to use his newfound fortune to purchase a new car and a new house, as well as treat his family.

The Hertfordshire local had played a Lucky Dip via the National Lottery app, joining the ranks of more than eight million players who win each week on The National Lottery’s range of games.

At the time, Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at The National Lottery, said: "This is seriously fantastic news for Mr. G - who really is 'Set For Life' with this life-changing prize coming his way every month for the next 30 years.

"He can now look forward to a new home and car, whilst also treating his family. Huge congratulations."

Set For Life is a draw-based game where players select five main numbers from 1 to 47 and one "Life Ball" from 1 to 10, offering fixed prizes ranging from the top prize of £10,000 a month for 30 years to smaller amounts for matching fewer numbers.
