The recycling centre in St Albans has "unexpectedly closed" today (April 2).
An image began circulating on social media earlier this afternoon, displaying a sign outside the tip stating: "site shut due to staff shortage".
This has since been confirmed by the county council.

A spokesperson for the authority told The Herts Advertiser: "Due to unexpected staff sickness we've sadly had to close the St Albans Recycling Centre today.
"The safety of members of the public is of the upmost importance, and we can only guarantee this when we have enough staff on site. "
The authority said it will "keep residents updated" via its website.
It is unclear when the tip will reopen, but its usual hours are 10.30am until 5pm from Thursday to Monday every week.
