Prolific Harpenden shoplifter fined after several thefts

A prolific Harpenden shoplifter has been fined after committing several thefts across the town.

Ashley Alexander was ordered to pay £240 (£40 per theft) at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (March 24).

The 32-year-old of Roundfield Avenue, Harpenden, was previously arrested, charged and remanded for three offences, including:

  • Theft of cleaning products from Tesco Express, Luton Road, on February 23
  • Theft of food and household items from the Co op, Southdown Road, on February 22
  • Theft of meat from the Co-op, Southdown Road, on Monday, February 9.

He pleaded guilty to these offences. He was also dealt with for three additional shoplifting incidents from Tesco Express on October 25, 2025, January 30 and February 1 - for which he had previously failed to appear in court.

Alexander was also ordered to pay compensation to the stores.
