An historic St Albans city centre unit looks set to become a new café and ice cream shop after plans were approved.
An application submitted by Vittorio Italian Food Ltd has been given the greenlight, targeting the Grade II listed building at 5 French Row for a new food spot.
Documents attached to the proposal reveal the eatery's signage which reads "Dolce Vita" in the centre, alongside the words "Caffetteria and Gelateria". A large 3D ice cream cone seen in initial plans was removed in amended versions.
The district council granted conditional permission, its decision notice reads: "The proposed development is considered to cause no adverse effects on the historic integrity of the listed building and its setting, nor to any features of architectural or historic interest which it possesses."
This was echoed by the applicant who believed their proposal made minor alterations to the shopfront which are "sympathetic" and "fully reversible".

5 French Row was formerly a delicatessen named Co. Natur, but has been vacant since its closure. The property is currently being marketed by estate agents Aitchison Raffety as "under offer".
Luxury ice cream brand Darlish, which also previously operated out of French Row, has now opened its doors at Jubilee Square marking its permanent St Albans home.
