On this day in 2017, an incredibly rare St Albans dog got a top certificate at Crufts.
Tess, known by her show name Ch. Annatefkah Bennu, received a Reserve Challenge Certificate (RCC) for her breed, securing the title of runner-up best bitch at the show.
The top honour in the category went to one of Tess’ puppies, highlighting both the exceptional lineage and talent within her family.
At the age of seven, Tess was particularly notable as one of the older competitors, having successfully earned the title of Champion (Ch.) by winning at least three challenge certificates in the six years she has been competing at Crufts.
Her handler, Rhian Mcloughlin, a dog trainer from Chiswell Green, believed there were only 13 puppies of that pure breed born in the UK in the previous year and as a result of their scarcity, they can be expensive.

The breed is often imported from Europe or America - Annatefkah, the name of the kennel where Tess was born, is one of the places Pharaohs can be bred in the UK.
She said: "Tess goes in, she knows her job, she’s such a diva.
"I absolutely loved it, and we were also on the stand in the main arena – to walk in and see the bright green grass and the lights, it was quite a shock.”
Despite their moment of fame, the duo were disappointed that their interview with Alan Carr and Clare Balding didn't make it to the broadcast.
Moreover, Tess previously appeared in a film, briefly featuring in Exodus: Gods and Kings alongside Christian Bale.
