An historic Harpenden pub has confirmed it remains open amid a risk of subsidence.

Multiple blue hoardings and a road closure have appeared in the vicinity of The Cross Keys on Bowers Parade leaving customers questioning whether it is operational.

A spokesperson for The Good Beer Guide pub has since confirmed they are having problems with subsidence - this occurs when the soil beneath a building sinks, leading to potential structural damage.

"As you are probably aware there is a lot of activity outside The Cross Keys as we have a subsidence issue which is causing issues outside the pub," they added.

"We are still trading as usual and appreciate all the support from our customers thank you."

According to traffic website one.network, Thames Water Utilities Limited are currently undertaking works on Bowers Parade/High Street.

A road closure is in place outside the pub, with repairs scheduled to finish at 5pm on March 2.

Thames Water Utilities Limited has been contacted for further information.
